Orchards and Artwork
Happy Fall! This past weekend, Alex and I rented a car and drove out to the Hudson Valley. Every year we’ve lived in the city, we have always gone apple picking during October. It is one of my favorite fall things to do and it has the added advantage of being a very socially distanced activity!! Plus, enjoying warm apple cider donuts and fresh apple cider is always a win in my book!
We have been visiting Apple Dave’s Orchards for over five years now. It takes about an hour and half to drive there and we arrived shortly before it opened. It was a gorgeous sunny day and we started the morning by taking a short walk around a pond on their farm. Once we completed the trail, we paid for our apple bag and headed into the orchard. We paid for a small bag, but after filling it to the top, we realized they may have made a mistake and gave us a large one instead. I’m pretty sure we left with over five dozen apples!
Nearby the orchard is Storm King Art Center. Alex and I have visited in the past, but it has been awhile. I believe the last time was in 2014 when my parents and brother were visiting New York. Storm King is a 500-acre outdoor museum with large-scale sculptures placed throughout the park. It is such an incredible place and we spent close to two hours walking around the hills, meadows and forests while admiring the artwork.
Fall is my favorite season and I just love witnessing the change in colors. It has often been difficult to find a sense of normalcy in this Covid-19 world, but visiting the Hudson Valley was the perfect respite to enjoy nature and get out of the city for a day.
