Christmas in New York - Dyker Heights
One of the perks about moving back to New York in December is being able to experience Christmas in the city. New York goes all out for the holidays with over-the-top display windows, huge light installations and Christmas trees in every store. It makes an already bright city shine even brighter.
I have read many things about the light displays in Dyker Heights, but despite living in New York on and off for seven years, we had never visited previously. When Alex and I learned we would be moving back in December, I knew I would make a point to visit this year. Beginning in the 1980’s, this neighborhood in Brooklyn started decorating their houses in lights and it has exploded to where dozens of families try to outdo themselves and each other in colored lights, elaborate decorations and even motorized figurines. Despite seeing pictures, I was not truly prepared for the awesomeness that was the Dyker Heights Neighborhood! It was UNBELIEVABLE!
I have a feeling this will become a new Christmas tradition for us moving forward. Alex and I loved walking around the neighborhood and seeing all the decorations. There were lots of other people and families roaming the streets as well and people selling everything from hotdogs to popcorn to hot chocolate. It really was a fun evening. I’m already looking forward to next year!
