Charleston, SC

One of the best things about living in Charlotte is the ease at which we can take a last-minute road trip.  As the weather forecast this past weekend looked beautiful, we decided to head to Charleston, SC!  This is one of my favorite places in the South due to the amazing restaurants, beautiful neighborhoods and great shopping.

It has become a tradition each time we visit to stop at Chez Nous for lunch.  It is a gorgeous French restaurant and the menu changes on a daily basis depending on what is in season. They offer two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts.  We usually get one of each and share.

After lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the city.  We stayed at a cute historic hotel, Kings Courtyard Inn, which was located in the main shopping area on King Street.  We spent some time browsing in and out of shops and then headed toward the historical district which is home to some beautiful mansions.  Many of them have signs detailing how old the home is and the history of the previous owners.

After heading back to the hotel to get ready for the night, we started our evening at The Ordinary, where we shared a dozen oysters and drinks.  The Ordinary is the perfect place to grab a seat at the bar and enjoy the fresh seafood.

Next stop, we headed to our dinner reservations at Sorghum and Salt which is a newly opened restaurant serving small plates.  We shared a bunch of dishes and all were delicious.  After dinner, we went to one of our favorite cocktail bars, The Belmont.  We were able to get a seat in the window and people watch while we enjoyed our drinks.  We ended the night with ice cream sandwiches from Peace Pie.  They make an extra special ice cream sandwich that includes a layer of pie filing!  Yum!

The next day, we woke early and enjoyed breakfast at the hotel before taking a long walk along the riverfront.

We finished our visit to Charleston with lunch at the Butcher and Bee.  It was a great weekend and I hope to return another time soon.  Some additional pictures and links to more of our favorite places in Charleston below.
