City of London
Yesterday, Alex I spent the morning touring the City of London, a neighborhood incorporating the historic center and central business district of London. We started our morning at Postman's Park, the site of a former churchyard and now houses a memorial with the names of ordinary people who gave their lives saving others.
We then walked over to St. Paul's Cathedral, one of the largest cathedrals in Europe.
After roaming around St. Paul's Cathedral, we walked along the River Thames to the Tower of London. We ended up not going in, but instead walked across the Tower Bridge to Borough Market to grab something to eat. Everything looked delicious and we settled on two cream-filled donuts from Bread Away, a Roast Hog sandwich, and a lemon-meringue tart. Clearly, dessert was the focus!
After lunch, we toured the Southwark Cathedral located next to Borough Market. The cathedral is free to enter and I purchased a photo permit for £1.00. Southwark Cathedral is the oldest cathedral church building in London and it is believed there has been a church on this site since AD 606!!
Lastly, we stopped by Tate Modern. The museum showcases 20th-century modern art and is housed within a former power station. On the 10th floor, you can go outside on the terrace to get a 360 degree view of London. After the museum, we took the pedestrian walkway back across the river where we hopped on the tube towards home.
