Lagos

Yesterday we spent our day in Lagos, an ancient maritime city, about 10 minutes from our Airbnb.  Our first stop of the morning was to the bakery, Padaria Central, for pastries.  We each got a donut filled with cream and a pastel de nata (Portuguese egg tart).  They were delicious and I wish every morning could start with dessert!!  Haha!

After breakfast we walked to Praia do Pinhao, a beach surrounded by red cliffs.  To get to the beach we had to walk down a steep old stairway.  Praia do Pinhao was the first beach we've been to in Portugal where you could find shells so naturally I was in heaven being able to scour the beach for pretty shells.

After sitting in the sun for most of the day, we headed back to Lagos to check out the town center.  The streets are winding and cobblestoned and several of the buildings I noticed had beautiful tiled exteriors.  We stopped by a couple of churches as well which were much simpler and less ornate than churches we have seen in other parts of Europe.
