Durham & Chapel Hill, NC
Alex and I decided to take a road trip this past weekend to Durham and Chapel Hill. Neither of us had been to this part of North Carolina before and decided to pack a suitcase and head out!
We started the morning at the Durham Farmer's Market where we perused the fresh produce, shared a grilled pimento cheese sandwich from one of the local food trucks, and enjoyed a fresh squeezed lemonade.
After the Farmer's Market, we headed to Duke University. Alex and I enjoy visiting college campuses and always end up reminiscing about our own college expereinces; Alex at the University of Pennsylvania and me at Truman State University. Let's just say, Duke did not disappoint! It was beautiful and even had its own botanical garden. So pretty!
After several hot hours in the sun touring Duke University, we were ready for a break from the heat and drove to Fullsteam Brewery for a beer. Alex chose the Beasley's Honey White and I got the Southern Basil. It was great to sit for a little bit and enjoy a nice cold beverage!
After drinks, we headed to Chapel Hill and checked into our hotel, The Carolina Inn. It was a beautiful, southern hotel right on The University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill's campus. We had an early dinner at The Lantern Restaurant and then went for drinks at The Crunkleton.
The next morning, we woke early and set off to explore the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill's campus. As it was only 8:30 in the morning, we practically had the whole campus to ourselves with the exception of a few joggers. The campus was beautiful with it's red-brick buildings and lush green lawns.
On the way home from Chapel Hill, we stopped at a cute little town named Apex, NC. It had the sweetest Main Street with restaurants, antique stores, and boutique shops. Unfortunately, we passed through before anything was open (the struggle of early risers!), but it was still nice to stroll along and enjoy the quiet morning before heading back to Charlotte.
