Pacific Northwest (Part IV- Portland)
The last leg of our trip took us to Portland where we spent the weekend eating, walking, sightseeing, and did I mention eating?!?! The food in Portland is nothing short of awesome and we had some really good meals and desserts!
We arrived in Portland from Cannon Beach at about lunch time, so we stopped in at Maurice's where we had some wonderful french food and an iced tea. We then walked around several different areas (the Southwest and Southeast) popping in and out of shops. We got ice cream at the very much talked about Salt & Straw where I got the Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons (YUM!) and Alex choose the Bone Marrow and Smoked Cherries (different, but still very good). We then headed back to our hotel room to rest and change before dinner.
We had dinner our first night at Han Oak which was amazing. The chef prepared a Korean tasting menu and everything we had was just delicious.
The next morning, we headed about 30 minutes outside of Portland to the Historic Columbia River Highway where you can find multiple waterfall hikes and lookout points. We visited several of the waterfalls including: Multnomah Falls, Horsetail Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Latourell Falls. We had perfect weather and it was such a beautiful area. You could easily spend a whole day looking at waterfalls- I just can't get over this part of the country!!
We ended our tour of the Historic Columbia River Highway at the Vista House where you have a scenic view of the surrounding area.
We were pretty tired after our excursion to the Columbia River Gorge, so we grabbed lunch at Bunk Sandwiches and rested for a little bit before venturing out to dinner.
Before dinner, we walked around North Portland and then made our way to Olympia Oyster Bar. The food was fantastic and we wound up getting ice cream after at Fifty-Licks. It was a great way to spend our last evening in the Pacific Northwest.
Before our flight Sunday morning, we walked over to Voodoo Doughnuts, a staple in Portland. The have some crazy flavor combinations! Alex got the Homer Simpson Doughnut and I got the Portland Creme Doughnut. We were sad to leave Portland and I hope to visit the Pacific Northwest again soon!
