Sunday in Sonoma

This past weekend, Alex’s sister Megan, was in town for a visit and it was great having her out for a few days. Summer in San Francisco is typically gray and gloomy, but we have turned a corner and are now approaching Indian Summer here in the city. It was a gorgeous weekend and we could not have asked for more beautiful weather.

We spent all day Sunday across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. After crossing the bridge, we made a brief stop at a lookout point to enjoy the view of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a bit hazy out with the sun directly overhead, so the city was somewhat difficult to see at this angle!

We also drove out to the Point Bonita Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1855 and is still active today. It is currently maintained by the US Coast Guard. The grounds around the lighthouse are just beautiful and offer panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline, Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, and the Pacific Ocean.

One of my favorite destinations outside of San Francisco is wine country. It is so peaceful, pretty, and serene. I love sitting outside with a glass of wine in hand, simply enjoying the sun on my face. The first winery we visited in Sonoma was MacRostie Winery and Vineyard. They specialize in Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs and the wines were wonderful. All three of us enjoyed the wine tasting experience. Plus, it didn’t hurt the winery sits atop a hill with a stunning view!

After stopping for a delicious lunch at Shed Cafe in Healdsburg, we made our way to Copain Wines. When Alex and I first lived in San Francisco we visited here with another friend and fell in love with their wines and tasting room. When we moved back to the city a few months ago, we decided to join their wine club. For our tasting on Sunday, they paired each set of wines with a small charcuterie plate and we had a lot of fun sampling the wines along with cheeses, fruits and salamis.

It was a fun-filled weekend and I’m so glad Megan had an opportunity to visit. And, much to our luck, she will be back out in October! I think we’ve all agreed another trip out to wine country is in order!
