Jurien Bay
We left Exmouth and are making our way back to Perth. We spent the night in Geraldton to break up the drive before arriving in Jurien Bay Friday morning. We first went to Sandy Cape, one of the many areas to explore the beautiful sand dunes of this region. For $10.00, we rented a sandboard and spent time sandboarding down the dunes. Picture sledding but on sand and you have the right idea! After waxing the bottom of our sandboard, we tested it out and went flying down the dunes. It was so much fun and we both were covered in sand by the end of it! I'm pretty sure I'll be finding sand in my hair for the next week!
At one point, I am climbing back up the hill after my run and see Alex excitedly calling me over. Once I get to the top, I see an emu walking across the dune!
On Saturday we drove to Lesueur National Park to hike the Lesueur Walk Trail. This 4-mile hike goes to the top of Mount Lesueur providing views of the Indian Ocean and surrounding region. The national park is known for its wildflowers which start blooming in September. I read online there are over 900 different species of flora identified within the park! I am bummed we are not here in the spring as I imagine it is beautiful. Even though we did not get to see the flowers, we did get to see several kangaroos along the walk.
We spent the remainder of the afternoon doing laundry, re-packing/re-organizing our suitcases and watching the royal wedding!
After leaving Jurien Bay, we are spending one night in Swan Valley before flying out to Eastern Australia tomorrow. Swan Valley is only 25 minutes from downtown Perth and is the oldest wine region in Western Australia. We visited a few wineries including: Oakover Grounds, Sittella Winery, and Mandoon Estates. It was a relaxing afternoon and a wonderful way to wrap up our time in Western Australia.
Our three weeks in Western Australia have flown by! We have 40 days left in Australia before we head back to the states. I have to keep reminding myself this is still a lot of time, but honestly it feels like it is going all too quickly!
