Nazaré
On Monday, we left Marvão and drove to our next stop, Nazaré, where we will be until Sunday. Nazaré is a pretty fishing village and one of the most popular seaside towns on the central east coast.
The weather forecast this week is not the best with rain scheduled for all day Thursday and Friday (my fingers and toes are crossed this changes!). According to our weather app, Tuesday was going to be the best weather day for the week, so we made sure to spend our day at the beach and in the sun!
In the morning, we headed to Praia do Norte. The beach is located about 3 miles from the town of Nazaré and is known for having some of the biggest waves IN THE WORLD! Although you wouldn't know it on the day we visited as the sea was pretty calm. The beach is almost a mile long and we took a nice walk along the sand.
There is also a cliff walk nearby which has some amazing views of both Praia do Norte and Praia de Nazaré along with a view of the lighthouse. I could not get over the water here! It is such a pretty shade of blue and so clear!
After exploring, we decided to head back to Nazaré where we camped out on the beach for the rest of the afternoon.
That evening, we headed back to the cliff hike we did earlier in the day to watch the sunset. But first we stopped to see the large church nearby, Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, a 17th-century baroque building. The sunset was beautiful last night and we had first row seats along the cliff.
