Auckland
We have arrived in New Zealand! We will be traveling around both the North and South Islands for the next 40 days and are looking forward to exploring this area. We have heard from multiple people New Zealand is one of their favorite countries to visit and I have a feeling we are going to really love it here. We are starting on the North Island before flying to the South Island.
We only had one full day in Auckland and spent the day exploring the city. We started the morning by driving to Mount Eden, Auckland's highest volcanic cone at 643-feet tall. The symmetrical crater is known as the Te Ipu Kai a Mataaho (the Food Bowl of Mataaho, the god of things hidden in the ground). It was a sunny, clear day and the city really sparkled from this viewpoint.
After driving back to our hotel, we spent the remainder of the day walking around the city and enjoying the sunshine. I didn't bring my big camera with me, so only go one shot of the SkyTower!
We leave tomorrow to head north to Russell where we will be for two nights. Alex and I were discussing recently that for the remainder of our travels, we will not be in any one town or city for longer than 4 nights. The majority of our accommodations max out at 2 to 3 nights. We have a busy itinerary over the next few months, but we are determined to try and see EVERYTHING!
