Amsterdam
We arrived home from Amsterdam yesterday evening and I'm so happy we were able to visit. Amsterdam was beautiful and I loved all the canals and stunning architecture. It was very picturesque and we lucked out with the weather.
Also, the bikes - SO MANY BIKES!! I've never seen a city where it seems every single person living there rides a bike. It was a bit overwhelming at first as bikers have the right of way, so I had to get used to looking in every direction before crossing the street. They truly are all over!
The first morning we were there, we did a walking tour which provided some interesting history and facts about the city. It was a great way to learn more about Amsterdam and to get a feel for some of the different neighborhoods.
We went to a couple museums while there including the Van Gogh Museum which was well-done and I enjoyed learning more about Van Gogh's work and life. We also went to the Anne Frank Museum where you toured the house where Anne, her family, and four other people lived for 25 months in hiding during the holocaust before being discovered by the Nazis. It was amazing to see how well-preserved the space is after all these years and a powerful reminder of the horrible persecution so many people went through during the war.
This was an unexpected trip, but I'm so glad we were able to visit and am happy to report we returned home to a working shower! Looking forward to spending this week back in our flat and exploring more of London.
